John's Story Seventy-five-year-old
John has been part of the Bridgewell community
for more than 15 years, residing in one
of our homes in Saugus. John is a passionate
sports fan! He loves watching games on TV,
attending live events and participating
in Bridgewell's Special Olympics team. He's
won silver medals in both the softball and
tennis throw.
Each year, John looks forward
to traveling to Yankee Stadium to watch
his beloved Red Sox take on the New York
Yankees.
John stays up to date on current
events and loves sharing his views with
his housemates and staff. Outside of Bridgewell,
John spends time with his niece, who lives
nearby.

Our vast array of residential services provides
support to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities,
individuals with psychiatric disabilities and the aging population.
Our core purpose is assisting people to lead
and direct their own lives. We are dedicated to ensuring that
our homes create the conditions for developing, sustaining
and strengthening relationships among residents, in the community
and with family members.
Our residential services include permanent housing,
supported living in single-family homes and apartment settings,
transitional housing and temporary housing.
All services are provided based on individual
choice and decision making and emphasize a holistic approach
to service delivery.
We have over 80 homes in 14 communities north
of Boston including Lynn, Saugus, Peabody, Wakefield, Swampscott,
Salem, Lowell, Chelmsford, Tewksbury, Billerica, Haverhill,
Melrose, Lynnfield and Merrimac.
Residential Services for People with Developmental
Disabilities
We operate many residential programs located
in Lynn, Saugus, Peabody, Chelmsford, Swampscott, Tewksbury,
Merrimac, Haverhill, Wakefield, Salem,
Lynnfield, Melrose and Billerica. Our homes accommodate from
one to as many as ten people. Bridgewell provides around-the-clock
trained, direct-care staff to support the people living there.
Together, we explore creative options that allow each person
more autonomy, privacy and independence.
Residential Services for People with Psychiatric
Disabilities
We operate several residential programs
in Lynn, Lowell, Swampscott, Saugus, Billerica and Melrose
for individuals with varying psychiatric disabilities including,
but not limited to, dual diagnoses, substance abuse disorders,
bipolar disorders and other chronic mental illnesses. The
homes can accommodate between four and eight people. Bridgewell
provides around-the-clock, trained, direct-care staff to support
the people living there.
In addition, we provide residents with access
to treatment and rehabilitation to help them build stable,
independent and meaningful lives. Our goal is for residents
to eventually transition to less-supported living situations
and then back to living independently in the community.
Transitional Housing
Transitional housing is for individuals with psychiatric disabilities
who are ready to move from long-term residential services
to living on their own. The transition period usually lasts
for approximately six months. Bridgewell provides around-the-clock,
trained, direct-care staff to assist residents in developing
skills and coping strategies to move back into the community.
Supported Living
Our supported-living program is a housing program for people
with developmental and psychiatric disabilities who are able
to live more independently. Individuals live on their own,
primarily in subsidized housing units in northeastern Massachusetts.
Bridgewell staff is available to assist with obtaining health
care, medication, proper nutrition and with financial management.
Temporary Housing
Bridgewell's temporary housing program is designed for individuals
with developmental and/or psychiatric disabilities who are
in crisis. Bridgewell staff provides a myriad of services
to help stabilize the individual's situation. These include
around-the-clock, trained, direct-care staff, medication consultation,
counseling services, and access to a day-treatment program.
